Microlandia 0.11.0 just landed!

On this update your little city remembers it is actually a brutal economics and sociology simulator wearing voxel pajamas. Rents are capped but vacancies bite harder, education spreads through libraries and museums instead of magic, City Hall suddenly matters for crime, and roads get fatter so your commuters complain a bit less. You still get new shiny buildings and nicer graphics, but under the surface the game is quietly conspiring to teach you that every โ€œfixโ€ in a city creates three new problems somewhere else.

๐ŸŽญ New Buildings

Five new buildings, five new ways to distort your city

  • City Museum - Culture hub, provides education aura
  • High-Rise Tower - 40x20 residential mega-structure
  • Small Library - 20x20, provides education aura boost
  • World-Class Restaurant - Premium entertainment venue
  • Techno Club - Nightlife & culture destination

๐Ÿ“Š Rent & Housing Mechanics Overhaul

Landlords can now raise rent by at most five percent per year, which is roughly zero point forty two percent per month. The wild compounding is gone, but the pressure is still there.

  • Rent Control Implemented: Landlords can only raise rent by max 5%/year (0.42%/month)
  • Vacant Building Penalty Doubled: Buildings โ‰ค20% occupancy now lose 20% rent (was 10%)
  • Full Building Bonus: Buildings โ‰ฅ80% occupancy increase rent by monthly cap
  • Result: More realistic rent market, less explosive rent growth

๐ŸŽ“ Education System - New Aura Mechanic

The base university graduation rate is now around thirty percent, down from a naive fifty. Each education or culture building, such as Library, Museum or Planetarium, adds its own points to graduation. You do not get a smart workforce by placing one giant campus in the middle of nowhere. You get it by building a dense network of cultural institutions.

  • Education buildings now provide graduation rate boosts
  • Base university graduation rate: ~30% (reduced from 50%)
  • Each education building (Library, Museum, Planetarium) adds +points% to graduation
  • Example: 3 libraries (5pts each) = 30% + 15% = 45% graduation rate
  • More cultural buildings = more educated workforce

๐Ÿ‘ฎ Police & City Hall Synergy

City Hall now amplifies your police with a twenty percent boost to clearance rate. The base clearance was reduced, so a city without institutions feels the weight of unsolved crime, while a city that invests in City Hall sees cases actually closed.

  • City Hall now provides +20% police clearance rate
  • Base clearance rate rebalanced (reduced 20%, but City Hall brings it back)
  • Build City Hall to dramatically improve crime solving

๐Ÿš— Traffic Improvements

Road bandwidth increased from one hundred to one hundred twenty eight cars, roughly twenty eight percent more capacity. Congestion still exists, as in life, but the grid is less brittle and more forgiving of imperfect layouts.

  • Road bandwidth: 100 โ†’ 128 cars (+28% capacity)
  • Less congestion, smoother traffic flow

๐Ÿ’ฐ Expense System Refactored

Building operating costs are now grouped by type, police salaries, hospital running costs and so on, which makes the budget page readable instead of mystical. Structures that are still under construction no longer drain operating money.

  • Building operating costs now categorized by type (police salaries, hospital costs, etc.)
  • Buildings under construction no longer incur operating costs
  • More transparent budget breakdown

๐Ÿฅ Health System Changes

Private health care as an automatic fallback is now off by default, and can be enabled as an explicit policy choice. Citizens without coverage might remain untreated. Newspaper health stories are less noisy, roughly half of them about births, a smaller share about sickness.

  • Private healthcare fallback disabled by default (optional setting)
  • Newspaper health stories now less frequent (50% births, 10% sickness)
  • Less spam in your news feed

๐ŸŽต Audio Enhancements

Parks now have polyphonic bird songs, several birds calling at once, not a lonely loop. Level up moments come with their own celebratory sounds, making progress slightly more addictive than it should be.

  • Polyphonic bird songs in parks (multiple can play simultaneously)
  • New music track (arm004)
  • Level-up celebration sounds

๐Ÿ› Notable Fixes

We removed silent distortions and corrected several problems that were around, which gives a smoother, more accurate gaming experience, where your budget graphs reflect reality, not accounting ghosts.

  • Fixed: Buildings now only pay expenses when constructed
  • Fixed: Monthly expense calculations corrected
  • Fixed: Occupancy tracking now accurate
  • Improved: Street naming system
  • Optimized: Particle effects performance

Nice! Tried it first in October, now happily wishlisted on Steam, and opted for the 6 USD. :)

Is there a bug regarding single homes? Construction time takes 288 days, which seems quite a long time in comparison to apartment buildings.

Also, the pauses between the tutorial popups are rather long. At first I thought it ended. :)

Hi there. Thanks for the feedback, I'll adjust the tutorial.  I think you are correct, single home construction times are off. We will review this for tomorrow's build.

You should get a Steam key in your inbox soon... thanks for playing ! :D

Youโ€™re welcome! I really like it! Iโ€™m looking forward toโ€ฆ everything you mentioned!^^
