Microlandia 0.9: Problems never sleep
Cities are not equations, they are convex to error, concave to arrogance. Pull a lever, then watch the system retaliate. Here's what changes, how it works, and what it implies.
🚌 Transit for the masses
Place bus stops on straight road tiles near homes and workplaces, then open Bus Fleet and buy buses. When car commutes fail from congestion, drivers defect to buses if a stop is within reach. Riders pay your weekly fare to the treasury, your fleet pays fuel or electricity in the budget. Price too high, demand evaporates; price too low, your accountants cry. Manage throughput, not fantasies.
🅿️ Parking as hard constraint, not decoration
Parking is computed per neighborhood, Each road tile grants four curb slots, and some buildings add their own. If a driver cannot park near the destination, the trip aborts, no arrival, and citizens could lose their job for no-show. You can use the new multilevel parking building for capacity, but could mean induced demand and thicker traffic.
🚓 Traffic taxes policing, minutes are currency
Jams slow police response, shrink patrol coverage, raise incident counts, and drag officers into congestion management and public messaging.
🗺️ Map mode, stop guessing, observe
Toggle the new view to see bus stop reach, total parking capacity, and saturation across districts. If a zone glows with scarcity, add supply or add alternatives. Data first, rhetoric later.

⚠️ Incidents, the world tilts on a timer
From time to time the city rolls an event, a change of rules in the simulation that creates extra difficulty or better luck: Ransomware locks your systems until you pay a lump sum, heatwaves multiply fires, recessions skim roughly twenty percent off company revenue, pandemics double hospital admissions. Good draws are “Summer of Love”, where births are double for one year, and “Tech Boom”, that doubles income for information sector firms.

🎁 Approval points, populism in a box
Building certain crowd pleasers, like the soccer field or the basketball court award approval points. Every 100 points you’ll get a mystery gift. Open it for rare buildings like the casino, temple, planetarium or others that are rather weird. You are being paid for spectacle, spend the goodwill wisely.

🧑💼 Hiring and firing, with frictions
Companies losing money fire workers without guilt. They will only hire in good months and in the case of twelve months with negative results they will leave the city and set up shop elsewhere, firing absolutely everyone, even in christmas season.
🏢 Inspector tool, knowledge before narrative
Click any building to read its attributes, worker capacity, resident capacity, parking supply, rent, and more. Diagnose before you prescribe.
🛍️ New commerce, local ripples
New commercial buildings: mega market, food truck court, and a mixed use building that rent apartments and small shops on the first floor. More places to spend, more deliveries, more noise, more jobs. Expect gains to be uneven, that is life.
🧮 Company cycles, profits with a personality
Each month a firm totals expenses, salaries plus rent. Revenue equals expenses multiplied by an industry margin. Tech can be twice the expenses, restaurants are thinner. Margins drift over time with a unique Perlin noise randomness per company. City taxes apply only to positive profits. A losing shop pays zero, stop trying to milk a stone.
🧳 Housing mobility, optimization for the impatient
Every 90 in game days, citizens search for cheaper rent and move if they find it. Rich residents (the ones with 12+ months of rent in the bank) stay put, they optimize for peace, not pennies. Build supply if you want stability, otherwise enjoy churn as a self inflicted policy.
🎛️ Interface, fewer excuses
Sharper UI and camera rotation. See your choices from more angles, then own them.
If you want certainties, buy a ruler. If you want a city, accept feedback, randomness, and costs that arrive on their own schedule.
